Astygisa vexillaria

Diagnosis.
The wings are more variegated than in the next three species with distinct ferruginous tints but without extensive white clouding. The discal spot of the hindwing is usually obscure, at most a minute pale dot.

Taxonomic notes. The type of capitata Walker should be in the University Museum, Oxford, but has not been located. The description indicates it is probably a synonym of vexillaria, particularly the reference to rufous markings. Javan and Balinese material (slide 12898, 12896) has the apical part of the valve shorter, the dorsal margin convex rather than concave.

Geographical range. Indian Subregion to Sundaland.

Habitat preference. This is an infrequent species of lowland forest. The highest record is from 900m on the limestone G. Api.
