Apostegania
rectilineata Swinhoe
Ptochophyle rectilineata Swinhoe,
1906, Ann. Mag. nat. Hist. (7), 17: 554.
Apostegania rectilineata prosthesis Prout,
1938, Gross-Schmett. Erde, 12: 149.
Diagnosis. The uniform pale, orangeish, straw-yellow colour of the wings, and the
straight, oblique fasciae are diagnostic. Of the latter, that cutting off the
hindwing apex is particularly distinctive.
Geographical range. Sumatra,
Peninsular Malaysia (Barlow colln), Borneo, Java; Bali (ssp. prosthesis).
Habitat preference. The
species is rare, recorded only from lowland forest. All four specimens noted
during the Mulu survey were from alluvial forest. Seven specimens were taken in
the understorey of undisturbed forest near the Danum Valley Field Centre, Sabah,
but the species was not recorded in canopy tower samples from the same forest or
in logged forest (S.J. Willott, pers. comm.).
