Arctornis secula sp. n.

Arctornis secula (holotype)

15mm. The forewings are satiny white with extensive broad scales. The fringes are tinged brownish, and this colour diffuses away into the distal margins (darker below). The forewing costa is tinged the same colour, and there is a small, dark brown discal spot. There is a broad, dark rufous brown bar across the frons between the antennae, and the palps are slender, pale brown like the fringes. The foretibia has a dark brown spot centrally. The male genitalia have the uncus very narrow. The harpe is slender, straight, as long as the valve. There is a diagnostic sickle-like extension to the basal part of the valve costa, its distal margin curving smoothly into the dorsal margin of the valve: it thus appears very different to processes in that position seen in the flavescens group (See A albescens sp.n). A similar costal process and uncus type is seen in flora (See A flora Swinhoe comb.n).
