Arctornis contrarcuatus sp. n


Arctornis contrarcuatus (holotype)


10-14mm. The facies is much as in the previous three species, the frons, palps and upper half of the foretibia are rufous brown, the palps paler ventrally. The male genitalia are of the flavescens type but with the harpe relatively short, strongly downcurved, the costal process almost as long and slightly incurved. The distal saccular margin is sclerotised but not rugose or spined.

Holotype UIu Temburong Expedition, BRUNEI: Base Camp, [300m], m.v. light, 9.x.1978, (T.W. Harman), BM lymantriid slide 2157.

Paratypes: 1 BRUNEI: 30-60m, Labi, lowland forest and secondary veg., 28.7.1979 (Lt. Col. M.G. Allen); 3 (slide 2107) BORNEO: Sabah, Danum Valley, 5º 01N, 117º 47E, x.1987, 100-150m, (A.H. Kirk-Spriggs); 2(slides 1656, 1658) SARAWAK: Gunung Mulu Nat. Park, R.G.S. Exped. 1977-8 (J.D. Holloway et al.) Site 11, February, Camp 1, Mulu, 150m, 385470, mixed dipt. for.

Other material. SARAWAK as above, but Sites 8, 12 and 23(2).

Geographical range. Borneo.

Habitat preference. All material is from lowland dipterocarp forest.
