Diagnosis.
The male labial palps extend to about the second abdominal segment. The facies of both sexes is black, rather velvety in the male but slightly more variegated in the female where paler elements similar to those of brontesalis are just evident. See also the next two species.

Geographical range. Borneo, Sumatra.

Habitat preference. All Bornean material is from lowland localities where precise data are available, but the species is rare. There is an old specimen in BMNH from Lawas in Sabah, labelled as a paratype. Recent surveys in Brunei have added three further specimens: two males from lowland forest at Ulu Belait (60m) and Bedawan (400m); a female from disturbed coastal forest at Seria. One male was taken by G. Martin in lowland forest of the Barito Ulu in central Kalimantan.
