Catocala macula

Diagnosis. The facies is unmistakable, the cryptic grey forewings having a bark-like pattern as in the temperate Catocala, but with pale yellow flash coloration on the hindwings, broken by a dark, dull, blackish brown border and discal patch.

Geographical range. Indian Subregion, Taiwan, Thailand (VK), Sundaland; Sulawesi, Seram (ssp. reducta).

Habitat preference. The species is rare, montane, recorded twice in recent surveys at 1930m on G. Kinabalu and at 1500m on G. Api.
