Penicillaria simplex

Diagnosis.
The forewing is relatively uniform and of a more rufous tone than in Bornean congeners; there is sometimes a narrow orange marking medially on the dorsum.

Geographical range. Oriental tropics and eastwards to New Guinea.

Habitat preference. The species is most frequently taken in upper montane forest from about 1500 to over 2000m. It has been found thus on G. Kinabalu in Sabah, G. Mulu in Sarawak, and Bukit Retak and Bukit Pagon in Brunei. It is also found less frequently in a range of lowland forest types: hill dipterocarp, alluvial and dry heath (kerangas) forest.
