Diagnosis.
See H. sternaria.

Taxonomic notes. The holotype female (?Borneo) of subrufa (examined) is in the Senckenberg Museum, Frankfurt. It has the reddish markings and other facies characters as in Bornean specimens. Bornean male specimens are somewhat smaller than those from Palawan described by Herbulot. In the male genitalia the neck of the uncus is more elongate.

Geographical range. Borneo, ?Palawan.

Habitat preference. Records made in G. Mulu National Park are from hill dipterocarp forest on G. Mulu and from alluvial forest. The species has also been taken at Labi in Brunei and at 300m on G. Santubong, Sarawak. It is uncommon.
