Amblychia sommereri sp. n


Amblychia sommereri (paratype)


 
42-47mm. The wings are strikingly banded with grey and brown-striated pinkish buff, with broken blackish fasciae and a large blackish discal spot on the forewing. In the male genitalia the valves are excavate between the apex of the strongly setose costa and the valve apex itself. The uncus has a pair of setose socii.

Holotype SARAWAK: Gunung Mulu Nat. Park, R.G.S Exped. 1977-8 (J.D. Holloway et al.) Site 20, Mar-Apr., W. Melinau Gorge, 150m. 422577, FEG 3, kerangas, BM geometrid slide 13330.

Paratypes: 2 as holotype; 2 general data as holotype but Site 18, March, W. Melinau Gorge, 100m 428563, alluvial forest and riverside veg., and Site 24, April, W. Melinau Gorge, 270m. 430558, FEG 4, limestone forest.

Geographical range. Borneo, Sumatra.

Habitat preference. All specimens are from lowland forest, to the west of the Melinau Gorge, mostly kerangas and dipterocarp forest on limestone.
