Papuarisme lagadani sp. n.

Horisme labeculata Prout; Holloway, 1976: 66, partim. (fig 469).

Papuarisme lagadani

13-16mm. Prout (1932c) noted a larger specimen as possibly representing a different species when describing labeculata above. This proved to be the case when more material became available for comparison and dissection. It represents a further case of a larger sister species to a more widely distributed montane species occurring at higher elevations on G. Kinabalu. P. labeculata ranges in size over 11-14mm. The facies of the two species is very similar, though the forewing antemedial is somewhat more evenly curved in lagadani. The principal differences are in the genitalia of both sexes. Compared to labeculata, the spur of the valve in this new species is more robust, straighter, and the valve itself is deeper. In the female the band of the signum is narrower and the swelling on the ductus is more clearly sclerotised, less roughened.

Holotype . SABAH: Mt. Kinabalu, 'Radio Sabah', 2600m, vii-ix.1965. Cambridge Expedition to Mt Kinabalu 1965 (H.J. Banks, H.S. Barlow & J.D. Holloway) BM geometrid slide 18674.

Paratypes: 1 (slide 9038), 5 (slide 18051, 18682) as holotype.

Geographical range. Borneo.

Habitat preference. The species is only known from 2600m ( 'Radio Sabah' zone) on G. Kinabalu.
