, 10-16mm. This species is similar to albapex, but the males have slightly more broadly bipectinate antennae, and the wings are slightly paler and browner. The marginal strips are narrower, particularly on the forewing, and the submarginal of the hindwing is always slightly curved. The submarginals are edged white throughout, and the marginal strip of the forewing has a white patch similar to that of albapex that in most specimens has an oblique posterior boundary rather than a transverse one, and this may become diffuse, with the white extending along some or most of the whole strip. The inner fasciae and stigmata are narrower, more clearly defined. The underside is slightly paler brown or grey, and the hair pencils of the male foreleg are concolorous with it; the stigmata are usually darker than the fasciae. The male foreleg has a voluminous sheath that is divided into two, and there is only one reduced tarsal segment. It is probable that this feature is similar in the two previous species, but preparations have not been made. The male genitalia resemble those of adda, rather than those of albapex, having subapical spining on the aedeagus and a single triangular diverticulum on the vesica. The female genitalia (and presumably those of the previous two species) are atypical of the Polypogon complex. The ostium is notched, and there is a lightly sclerotised and scobinate antrum to the ductus bursae, the distal two thirds of which being narrower and unsclerotised. The corpus bursae is long, narrow, sausage-shaped, with only a vestige of scobination in a central belt.

Holotype . Dutch West BORNEO, 85 miles above [upstream from?] Pontianak (Simons et Meligan (Sanggan)) ex Jansson, April 1909, BM noctuid slide 19435.

Paratypes: 1 (slide 19434), 1 as holotype; 1 (slide 20177; foreleg), 4 (slide 19685) NORD BORNEO: Mont Kina Balu, 5-8.1903 (John Waterstradt); 1 SARAWAK: Gunong Mulu Nat. Park, R.G.S. Exped. 1977-8 (J.D. Holloway et al.), Site 14, February, Camp 2.5, Mulu, 1000m. 413461, lower montane forest; 1 general data as previous but Site 16, March, Long Pala, Base, 70m. 413461, alluv. / second. for.; 1 BRUNEI: 30-60m, Labi, lowland forest and secondary veg., 12.4.81 (Lt. Col. M.G. Allen).

Taxonomic note. This description validates a manuscript name of Hampson. A male specimen (Plate 6; slide 19433) from the Pontianak locality has the marginal strips entirely whitish, and the fasciation is more diffuse. However, it may be aberrant, as one antenna is bipectinate, the other not so. The (possibly glued on) genitalia are as in adda and stidzeras.

Geographical range. Sundaland.

Habitat preference. Most material is from the lowlands, the highest being from 1000m.
