Artena rubida

Diagnosis
. The forewing is a rich dark brown that grades slightly paler and more violet towards the costa; slight fasciation is only apparent in this paler area. The forewing distal margin is distinctly paler, irrorated with mauve.

Taxonomic note. Zilli & Hogenes (2004) raised the taxon velutina Prout (New Guinea to Solomons and possibly Seram), originally described as a subspecies of rubida, to species status. The vesica of the aedeagus and the length of the ductus bursae are strikingly different in the two.

Geographical range. N.E. Himalaya, S.E. China, Thailand (VK), Andamans, Sundaland (Zilli & Hogenes, 2004).

Habitat preference. The species has been recorded infrequently in forests from the lowlands to 1930m.
