TRIBE HYPOCALINI
View Image Gallery of Tribe Hypocalini.

This monobasic tribe is difficult to place and may not be directly referable to the Catocalinae in even the broadest sense. Particular features are mentioned in the generic description below, but the clypeofrons appears to be fully scaled, the scales forming a slight peak that contributes to the snouted appearance generated by the labial palps. There is a pair of lobes between the first and second tergites; these are triangular, broad but rather shallow. The male eighth segment is modified, but atypical. The larva has all prolegs fully developed. The placement therefore merits further study.
