Scardamia Guenée

Type species: metallaria Guenée, India.

Synonyms: Laginia Walker (type species bractearia Walker, Sri Lanka); Oaracta Walker (type species auricincta Walker, S. Africa).

Features of the genus are given in the tribal description. It occurs widely in the Old World tropics and is represented as far east as New Caledonia and Fiji. One species occurs in Borneo.

The larva of the type species was described by Singh (1953), particularly the chaetotaxy. The body is cylindrical, pale greyish with obscure fuscous specklings.

The host-plant was Flacourtia (Flacourtiaceae). The larvae pupate between folds of leaves after joining them with silken threads.
