Eupithecia costalis
(x 1.47)

Diagnosis. The species differs from congeners in having dark fasciation on a pale ground rather than the reverse. The forewing postmedial is M-shaped, and the hindwing has a series of parallel fasciae that are more or less straight except for a subcostal flexure.

Geographical range. Borneo, Peninsular Malaysia, Indian Subregion, Hong Kong, Taiwan (ssp. ferrisparsata).

Habitat preference. A single specimen was taken in a cultivated area at Bundu Tuhan (1200m) on the slopes of G. Kinabalu. The type material of costalis was probably from the lowlands.
